Secure Data

Rice On Campus Storage and Collaboration

You can store Rice data files in the space allocated to your Rice NetID called storage.rice.edu (for individual or department data) or crate.rice.edu (for research data). Data in these locations can be shared with internal collaborators. Contact the OIT Help Desk for assistance in configuring your computer to use and properly secure access to it.

Rice On Campus Paper and Electronic Document Storage

You can also safely store paper and electronic documents in the Rice OnBase environment. OnBase provides secure, granular access to sensitive and confidential documents. Contact the OIT Help Desk if you need assistance adding your electronic documents to Onbase.

Secure Computer Backup

All of the above locations are safely backed up. If you save files directly to your computer's hard drive, however, you should also consider purchasing the Rice CrashPlan backup service. This service securely backs up sensitive and confidential information automatically and can quickly restore information in the event of a hard drive failure or virus attack. Contact the OIT Help Desk for more information.

See Rice Cloud Storage and Collaboration for more information about Rice Box.
