Staff Alert: Retirement Scams

Beware of spam/aggressive external emails related to retirement benefits

Scam Alert message on laptop

The Rice community has been receiving emails from external senders offering retirement consultations with email subject lines like "Retirement and Pension Meetings for Rice University Employees." These emails are not legitimate Rice communications and should be marked as spam.

If you are interested in a retirement consultation, Rice University provides these services at no cost to you as outlined in the Rice benefits website:https://knowledgecafe.rice.edu/benefits/retirement

You may visit this page for the contact information needed to schedule a time to discuss your path to retirement, how close you are to being retirement eligible, and what benefits you can anticipate. If you have other questions about your retirement plan or your options, please directly contact the Benefits department at benefits@rice.edu or by calling 713-348-2363.

Scammers are becoming more and more sophisticated about getting your personal information. Familiarize yourself with these tactics to learn what to watch out for – and report anything suspicious to help@rice.edu. Beware of attempts to gain financial information via these unsolicited emails, texts and phone calls from outside "companies" that offer to meet with you to advise on your retirement plans, accounts, or benefits.

Thank you for keeping a culture of security at Rice!
